About the Site Safety Plus scheme
CITB’s Site Safety Plus (SSP) courses have been designed for construction professionals to enhance their skillset, progress within their career and ensure the safety and compliance of their workforce.
At GTG, we offer our Site Safety Plus courses both online and in person at our state-of-the-art training centres in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) - Refresher
Who would benefit from an SMSTS Refresher course?

Anyone who already has held an SMSTS qualification for five years and wants to renew it. This course will refresh delegates’ knowledge of their responsibilities and the regulations required for maintaining a safe working environment.

Who would benefit from an SSSTS Refresher course?

Anyone who has held an SSSTS qualification for five years and wants to renew it, as well as anyone who would like to refresh their knowledge at any time during the five years. The course will refresh delegates’ understanding of their legal responsibilities to ensure health and safety, welfare and environmental compliance.

Frequently asked questions
Your Site Safety Plus accreditation is valid for up to five years upon successful completion of your course; after this time, you’ll be required to complete a refresher course to keep your qualification.
Yes – we can come to you to deliver training! Please submit an enquiry form here outlining the training you require and the number of delegates you have and we’ll be in touch to help.
This will depend on the course you’re interested in. For example, refresher courses will require you to have a held the qualification before, but non-refresher courses will have no prerequisites.
You may be able to access funding through the Employer Network for businesses registered with CITB, or through Skills Development Scotland for apprenticeship funding.

If your qualification is due to renew soon, you’ll need to book and complete a refresher course. You can book your SMSTS Refresher and SSSTS Refresher courses online, or submit your enquiry here and a member of our team will be in touch.
If your SSSTS or SMSTS qualification expires before you complete your refresher course, you will need to complete the full five-day training course again.
If you’ve lost your SSTS or SMTS certificate, you can find out the expiry date by searching on the CITB card checker here.
In addition to the construction roles outlined above, Site Safety Plus courses are suitable for people in other roles, such as facilities management or anyone responsible for managing contractors on site.
No, you don’t need to wait until nearly five years is up before renewing your certificate. You can renew your certificate at any point up until five years.
We can offer you both five-day blocks or day-release training for your Site Safety Plus training, depending on what is easier for your business.
Both SMSTS and SSSTS training lasts five days, and refresher courses last for two days.
We can deliver your Site Safety Plus training either online or in classrooms, depending on what best suits your delegates.
