Delivering apprenticeships for over 50 years

The Glasgow Training Group was established in Glasgow in 1971 with the aim of delivering high-quality apprenticeships across the west of Scotland for the automotive industry.  This brought about much-needed change for both apprentices and the industry, introducing a varied and innovative training programme that has grown to become one of the most respected in the UK.

Our 58,000 sq ft state-of-the-art training venue in Wolverhampton opened in 2013 and since then, we’ve been delivering automotive, transport and logistics apprenticeships. We deliver apprenticeships for some of the largest organisations in the UK.

The Apprentice Pit Stop

In addition to our custom-built workshops, forklift training  and transport training spaces, we have a dedicated Pit Stop, which is a safe and relaxing space for apprentices to bond with their peers. As well as sofas and armchairs for relaxing, this contemporary space also includes a library, dedicated study spaces, a pool table and modern gaming area.

The Hub

To keep everyone fuelled throughout the day, we have an on-site restaurant called The Hub. Here you can enjoy hot or cold food prepared by our caterers, with coffee, tea and a wide range of soft drinks.

If you wish to cover the cost of lunch for your apprentices while they are on site for learning sessions, they’ll be given lunch vouchers that provide them with a daily pre-determined  allocation to use in The Hub.

Our workshops

To provide your apprentices with the best learning environment possible, we’ve created custom-built workshop spaces to facilitate our light and heavy vehicle automotive apprenticeship provision, including:

  • Multiple modern tractor units, buses and coaches and up to 20 cars working simultaneously across our workshops
  • Dedicated and relevant hybrid vehicles and equipment for use in developing vehicle systems knowledge, skills or diagnosis training
  • Various  diagnostic platforms, such as Actia (Jaltest), Bosch KTS and Texa
  • Multiple engine rigs, axle rigs, brake rigs and trailer axle rigs
  • Modern laser alignment systems
  • F-Gas air conditioning training equipment

Forklift training facilities

We have a dedicated training area for forklift training. Within this space, learners can safely practise their forklift training and enhance their skills in a practical setting that mimics an environment similar to what they’ll experience in the workplace.

What our customers say

"We worked with GTG when the HGV driver shortage hit in 2022. We had 20 new starters join who had no experience in driving HGVs but had a passion for customer service. The support and guidance throughout was second to none, supporting our apprentices through what it means to be a recovery operative and how to build the technical skills required. GTG had a real expertise and passion for the industry and supporting us in building the standards we strive for in our amazing road workforce. "
Sarah Barnett

Group Head of Talent and Leadership

"We have worked with GTG for a few years, especially with LGV apprenticeships. They have done a great job and we’ve had many successfully pass the course and start their driving careers with us. They are flexible and cover all our sites across England, Scotland and Wales. Responsive and simply nice people to deal with, would highly recommend as a training provider. "
Rebecca Morgan

Head of HR

"Since working with GTG from 2023, we have enrolled multiple learners on apprenticeship programmes within the logistics sector. The service has been outstanding – speed and efficiency are key for us being in a fast-moving business and GTG is working with us to make this happen! GTG is an adaptable provider, tailoring their service to suit our business / individual requirements. I look forward to developing our portfolio further."

Travel and accommodation

As part of our Safeguarding practice, the undertakings for safe residential accommodation and travel are key priorities.  We work in partnership with SerVace, whereby we negotiate contracts with hotels and transport companies to ensure that, when our learners are residing with us, they are safe. Part of the contracting process is to identify the hotel and transport supplier security vetting practices, safeguarding and Prevent staff development and regulated HSE practices.  We then discuss costs, locations, and capacity to deliver our requirements. This means that GTG take care of the contracting and booking process on behalf of the employer.

Celebrating our apprentices

At GTG, we believe in celebrating the achievements of all apprentices and rewarding them for their hard work.  Our annual apprentice graduation is designed to do exactly that, giving our apprentices the chance to celebrate with their loved ones, employers and the GTG  employees who helped them along the way.

Quality cycle

GTG operates a rigorous quality management system.   GTG has implemented policies and processes in maintaining quality control, obtains results of process performance and effectiveness through quality assurance, and continuous improvement of our processes are based on objective measurements.  In doing so, we have oversight of all aspects of apprenticeship delivery. Our quality management practice has been structured with relating statements to reflect ISO 9001 and we have taken steps to align expectations of performance with the Education Inspection Framework, the IFA quality strategy, the SDS quality assurance framework, and standards set by awarding bodies. The quality management system consists of:

  • Quality control is the activity that measures the quality of the final product, or service. We design and implement processes to simplify how to provide outstanding quality across all     provisions.
  • Quality assurance is the evaluative practice of the efficiency and impact of delivery processes. Assurance is undertaken to understand the impact of the service and any required improvements.
  • Quality improvement is the outcome of assurance practices.  Through periodic analysing of quality assurance, the product or service can continuously improve.
