Pre Assessment Training!

The pre assessment Training is designed to refresh the technicians skills prior to completing the assessment, technicians will receive practical training on the use of multi meters, wiring systems, understanding of exhaust emissions and the inspection of braking and steering components, this training will increase the technicians confidence and ability to pass the assessment first time , this training is recommended for Technicians completing the accreditation for the first time.

Light Vehicle Inspection Technician Accreditation!

This IMI Accreditation was created to help the motor industry keep on top of constant, rapid changes in technology, legislation and working methods, by encouraging and measuring the current competence, knowledge and ability of those working within it and isintended for technicians whose job role involves the inspection, maintenance and repair of light vehicles. Technicians will complete 5 practical modules and an online knowledge test comprising of 10 questions.

IMI Accreditation is achieved through successful completion of the full assessment.

The following practical modules are assessed:

  • Inspect Emission Systems
  • Inspect Electrical Systems 
  • Inspect Braking Systems
  • Inspect Steering 
  • Suspension Systems Vehicle appraisal

   On completion of this assessment technicians will be able to calibrate emission test equipment before testing a vehicle, accurately inspect a vehicle, diagnose faults and correct repair requirements as well as having the knowledge of the appropriate wiring diagram required for the electrical systems of the vehicles being tested and the skill to apply it


Course Prerequisites

The technician must be able to work unsupervised and they should be in full time employment with at least three years’ experience to ensure they are familiar with the techniques for vehicle servicing, inspection and system(s) diagnosis.

Who Should Attend?

Technicians with a minimum of 3 years' experience working in a vehicle workshop and have recent experience of electrical, braking and steering/suspension systems and would like to achieve a nationally recognised accreditation.

This qualification also meets the DVSA eligibility criteria for technicians who would like to progress to the IMI Level 2 Award In MOT Testing (Class 4 & 7)
