Why choose this apprenticeship

The SVQ in Controlling Lifting Operations: Planning Lifts at SCQF Level 9 (SVQ Level 4) allows candidates to demonstrate their competence in planning lifts to take place in the construction environment. 

This qualification enables candidates progress from their initial trained Appointed Person card (red card) through to competent Appointed Person card (blue card) 

What this apprenticeship teaches you

This qualification covers areas such as:

  • Develop and maintain good working relationships.
  • Plan lifting activities.
  • Plan and establish safety, health, welfare and environmental systems for lifting operations.
  • Plan work activities and resources to meet project requirements.
  • Evaluate and confirm work methods; Plan the preparation of the site for the project.
  • Identify, allocate and plan the deployment and use of plant, equipment or machinery. 

How the assessment works

An end-point assessment consists of: review of completed logbook (portfolio of evidence), knowledge assessment (two online tests), skills assessment (five practical tasks) and an in-depth professional review.
