In Scotland our apprenticeship training takes place across four sites: Glasgow, Kilbirnie Street, The Clyde Building and Edinburgh. We also have a 58,000 sq ft state-of-the-art training venue in Wolverhampton which opened in 2013.
We are an approved DVSA test centre, for all three logistics hubs, and have a dedicated EV/hybrid training space in each of our automotive workshops to ensure there is a safe and effective work and learning space.
At GTG we strive to provide your apprentices with the best learning environment possible. We have custom-built workshop spaces to facilitate our light and heavy vehicle automotive apprenticeship provision, including:
- Multiple modern tractor units, buses and coaches and up to 20 cars working simultaneously across our workshops
- Dedicated and relevant hybrid vehicles and equipment for use in developing vehicle systems knowledge, skills or diagnosis training
- Various diagnostic platforms, such as Actia (Jaltest), Bosch KTS and Texa
- Multiple engine rigs, axle rigs, brake rigs and trailer axle rigs
- Modern laser alignment systems
- F-Gas air conditioning training equipment
As well as our custom-built workshops, transport and forklift training spaces, we also have a dedicated Pit Stop for apprentices to relax and bond with their peers. Our Pit Stop's are kitted out with sofas and armchairs as well as a library, dedicated study spaces and modern gaming areas.
We have a dedicated restaurant at each of our sites, called The Hub, where apprentices can enjoy hot or cold food, as well as coffee, tea and an array of soft drinks to keep them fuelled throughout the day.
As an employer, if you wish to cover the cost of lunch for your apprentices while they are on-site for learning sessions, they can be provided with lunch vouchers that entitle them to a determined daily allocated amount for use in The Hub.
Within our sites, we also have a dedicated training area for forklift training. Here, learners can enhance their skills and safely practice their forklift training in a practical setting that mimics a workplace environment that is similar to what they will experience after their time training with us.
As part of our Safeguarding practice, ensuring safe residential accommodation and travel is a top priority. Working in partnership with SerVace, we negotiate contracts with hotels and transport companies, ensuring the safety of learners during their stay with us. Part of the contracting process is to identify the hotel and transport supplier security vetting practices, safeguarding and Prevent staff development and regulated HSE practices. At GTG, we take care of the contracting and booking process on behalf of employers by discussing costs, locations and capacity to deliver our requirements.
Frequently asked questions
We provide a dedicated training plan for each employer and apprentice. This ensures that, from day one, everyone involved is aware of how learning is sequenced to build new knowledge, skills and behaviours. For example, for our Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair course, the apprentice will learn about the following: knowledge of the process, safety measures and personal protection when servicing a car.
Each apprentice will have an allocated assessor who will attend the workplace to answer any questions, provide pastoral support and to assess the competence of the apprentice when carrying out a task.
We provide employers with access to our e-portfolio platforms. This allows the employer to see the progress made by each apprentice in every learning session, giving them an overview of how well the apprentices are retaining their learning, applying their new skills and how they well they behave on the course.
For employers with a large cohort of apprentices, we provide reports which allow them to easily track each apprentice’s journey. These reports are designed for employers to clearly understand their apprentices’ learning progress, the timeline of the programme, and to provide an overview of their performance against learning targets, their attendance and any behaviours that may negatively impact progress.
The apprenticeship levy is only applicable in England. Skills Development Scotland contribute towards funding for apprenticeship training in Scotland. For more detailed information on funding for apprenticeships in Scotland, click here.
What our customers say
"We worked with GTG when the HGV driver shortage hit in 2022. We had 20 new starters join who had no experience in driving HGVs but had a passion for customer service. The support and guidance throughout was second to none, supporting our apprentices through what it means to be a recovery operative and how to build the technical skills required. GTG had a real expertise and passion for the industry and supporting us in building the standards we strive for in our amazing road workforce. "Sarah Barnett
"We have worked with GTG for a few years, especially with LGV apprenticeships. They have done a great job and we’ve had many successfully pass the course and start their driving careers with us. They are flexible and cover all our sites across England, Scotland and Wales. Responsive and simply nice people to deal with, would highly recommend as a training provider. "Rebecca Morgan
"Since working with GTG from 2023, we have enrolled multiple learners on apprenticeship programmes within the logistics sector. The service has been outstanding – speed and efficiency are key for us being in a fast-moving business and GTG is working with us to make this happen! GTG is an adaptable provider, tailoring their service to suit our business / individual requirements. I look forward to developing our portfolio further."Natasha Lakin
Quality cycle
GTG operates a rigorous quality management system. GTG has implemented policies and processes in maintaining quality control, obtains results of process performance and effectiveness through quality assurance, and continuous improvement of our processes are based on objective measurements. In doing so, we have oversight of all aspects of apprenticeship delivery. Our quality management practice has been structured with relating statements to reflect ISO 9001 and we have taken steps to align expectations of performance with the Education Inspection Framework, the IFA quality strategy, the SDS quality assurance framework, and standards set by awarding bodies. The quality management system consists of:
- Quality control is the activity that measures the quality of the final product, or service. We design and implement processes to simplify how to provide outstanding quality across all provisions.
- Quality assurance is the evaluative practice of the efficiency and impact of delivery processes. Assurance is undertaken to understand the impact of the service and any required improvements.
- Quality improvement is the outcome of assurance practices. Through periodic analysing of quality assurance, the product or service can continuously improve.
