Course Summary
The N202 Excavator 360 course, as outlined by NPORS, is designed to equip trainee operators with the essential knowledge and practical skills required for the safe and effective operation of a 360-degree excavator.
Over a 10-day training period, participants develop a thorough understanding of the construction industry’s risks, relevant legislation, and their responsibilities as plant operators.
The course places strong emphasis on the correct use of the manufacturer’s handbook, ensuring operators can identify and explain the functions of all major machine components and controls. Trainees learn to select and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), conduct comprehensive pre-operational checks, and follow all safety protocols when mounting, dismounting, starting, and manoeuvring the machine across various terrains.
Practical elements include configuring the excavator for travel, performing safety checks in the work area, and carrying out a range of excavation tasks to industry specifications, such as digging trenches for foundations and services, loading materials, backfilling and reinstating ground, and the fitting and removing of attachments.
The course also covers end-of-shift and shutdown procedures to ensure the machine is left in a safe state, as well as basic maintenance of the machine.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is both theoretical and practical; trainees must pass a written test covering safety, operational procedures, and legislation, as well as a practical test where their performance is evaluated against detailed marking criteria. The course adheres to key regulations, such as the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, PUWER, LOLER, and CDM, and recommends a minimum of seven hours of health, safety, and environmental induction training. Successful completion demonstrates that the operator can work safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards and legal requirements.
Course Prerequisites
To take the NPORS Excavator 360 training course, you do not need any prerequisites.
However, we recommend the course for those looking to work within a plant operator role.
