GTG Training is proud to announce that it is now one of the few training providers in Scotland to offer SMART repair courses.

SMART repair is a new and increasingly popular technique that allows you to repair minor vehicle damage quickly, cost-effectively and entirely in house.

Now while it is very clever, SMART actually stands for Small to Medium Area Repair Technology, and allows you to repair the bodywork, interior and glass of a vehicle without having to replace panels or large parts.

The benefits of SMART repair

So why is SMART repair becoming more and more popular? Well, the simple answer is that it is extremely effective, with plenty of benefits – whether you oversee a fleet for your business or if you service or sell vehicles. The two major advantages to SMART repair are:

  • It is much quicker than normal repair work.

  • It is much cheaper than normal repair work.

How is it quicker?

SMART repair is so much faster than normal repair work because you don’t need to replace or remove any parts from the vehicle. Instead, SMART repair focuses on fixing the issue in a localised spot and can often be done immediately with the tools on hand. This means that there is no waiting around for new parts or specialised equipment, and jobs can often be done within an hour or so.

How is it cheaper?

The fact that SMART repair is so much faster already makes it the cheaper option – the faster a repair is completed, the sooner that vehicle is back on the road. If you’re in charge of a fleet, keeping your vehicles mobile is vital, and if you service or sell cars, being able to repair vehicles quickly will naturally net you a higher turnover of stock and customers.

But even beyond that, SMART repair is also cheaper because parts aren’t being replaced and no specialised equipment is needed, allowing businesses and garages to do all these repairs in house without the need for third-party specialists.

What SMART repair courses are available?

At GTG we focus on three areas of SMART repair in particular:

Glass Repair – This is a one-day course that teaches how to fix a range of minor scratches and chips in the windscreen. Typically, windscreen repair can be done in as little as 20 minutes, offers great time savings and negates the need for expensive replacement windscreens.

Interior Trim Repair – This is a two-day course that focuses on repairing minor damage to the interior of cars – excellent for preserving the value of a car for sale and keeping it feeling brand new. Candidates will learn a range of techniquse to repair every kind of material found in the interior, including the plastics, vinyl, fabrics (upholstery repair), carpets, leather upholstery, steering wheels and headliners.

Paintless Dent Repair – The longest SMART repair course that GTG Training offers, the Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) course takes five days to complete. It equips candidates with the skills needed to quickly and effectively repair light damage to vehicles without the need for replacements or painting.

Who can make use of SMART repair?

The great thing about SMART repair is that it can help cut down repair costs – for any business that manages a fleet or repairs and maintains vehicles. This includes independent car dealers, car repair garages, taxi companies, local councils or any other business that has a fleet of vehicles.

If you are interested in upskilling either yourself or your employees in SMART repair, you can find out more information and the courses’ availability here.
